U.S. Wants Polanski Extradited
The U.S. has requested that Switzerland extradite Roman Polanski to America so that he can sentenced for his three-decade-old guilty plea involving sex with a then-13-year-old girl. Polanski was arrested last month when he arrived at the Zurich airport en route to a film festival.
Polanski, as expected, is fighting the extradition. It seems likely that Switzerland will send him to the U.S.
As far as I know, Polanski hasn’t committed any crimes in Switzerland so detaining him for a month only makes sense if the goal was to ship him to America. Nonetheless, Polanski and his lawyers will fight with everything they can to avoid returning to Los Angeles since a multi-year prison term awaits him.
