Congress Debates Health Care

Published by xzchief at 11:39 pm under Government Edit This

The Senate Health Committee discussed pending health care legislation today. The Democrats–circa 2009–are remembering the Democrats–circa 1993–and trying to pass massive medical reform early in a Democratic president’s administration.

A key difference between then and now is that Bill and Hillary Clinton presented Congress an already-finished package to approve. Members of both parties could find enough fault to nitpick the program into oblivion.

Conversely, President Obama is trying to include as many groups in the bill-drafting process as possible. His staff and he figure correctly that if Wal-Mart feels like it’s a part of the new law, it’ll be less likely to oppose the program later.

Wal-Mart had steadfastly opposed sweeping health care reform for 15 years. I wonder why the company suddenly changed its position. There must be something in it for Wal-Mart.
