I’ve seen a few promos for an upcoming show on TV Land called The Cougar. You’ve heard about cougars, older women who like to date younger men. Think Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher.

Apparently, The Cougar features a 40-year-old woman who will choose from among 20 twenty-something men. From there, the show looks very similar to The Bachelorette or dating shows of that ilk. The host, Vivica A. Fox, will help the Cougar find her dream men amid the cameras and contrived situations.

The tagline is that if older men can date younger women, why can’t older women date younger men? I thought society had gotten over that prospect a decade ago. Love is hard enough to find; no sense limiting oneself to so-called “age-appropriate” prospective partners. I’m more surprised that TV Land, the network home of Sanford and Son, the Andy Griffith Show and other old-time television programs, has gotten into the reality show business.
