On Awards and Memes
I hope everyone enjoyed New Year’s Day. Condolences to those affected by the tragic fire in Thailand early Thursday morning.
I saw that Illinois Senator-designate Roland Burris filed suit to ensure he is sworn into office Monday. Congress traditionally begins its term on the first Monday of January of odd-numbered years.
I’m pleased that Politics 2000 received a PageRank 4 rating today. I’m not sure why Sports 2000 has a PageRank N/A rating. Both blogs were started in August.
The sites have received a few awards and tonight’s a great time to accept them. I believe I already mentioned the Brilliante Award from Team SquidEtsy.
Political Rants from the Right and Mosaic Moments both bestowed the Lemonade Award.
I received the Rock Star Award from Glue For Families.
Finally, I was tagged by Fearless History with the Eight Things Meme. I appreciate all the kind gestures.
I like to include some personal notes about myself periodically because I think people would like to know a bit about the person whose site they are visiting. I think that’s more natural than trying to fit a tag. Then again, I would say I am a square peg trying to fit into a round hole much of the time. For instance, I like politics. Enough said.
Still, I can think of eight things to say here.
1. My favorite color is black. I like the peace and quiet of darkness.
2. I have been both a registered Republican and a registered Democrat.
3. I am a member of the National Rifle Association. I have never owned a gun.
4. I am a member of the American Civil Liberties Union. I support both the First and the Second amendments.
5. I don’t fit any politician’s views exactly, to my knowledge. I am closest to Bill Clinton, except on gun control.
6. I like politics because it’s the one field that touches all the others most directly.
7. I like elections because of their black-and-white, win-or-lose aspects.
8. I think government should help people be able to help themselves. Dependency on drugs isn’t good. Dependency on government isn’t much better.
