Curfew Imposed on Mayor

Published by xzchief at 11:30 pm under Government Edit This

I saw a story on KTLA, a Los Angeles TV station about a curfew being set on Bianca Figueroa, the mayor of South El Monte. The station claimed the story is the most-viewed at its Web site. South El Monte is 14 miles from downtown Los Angeles and has about 21,000 people.

I was interested. Apparently, Figueroa is a night owl. I can appreciate that. However, the city council fears for the mayor’s safety and the city’s liability should anything happen to her at 2 a.m.

Therefore, the council imposed a 11 p.m. curfew on her. Figueroa thinks the measure is petty. She added that her days are filled with meetings so she must work at night to keep in touch with worried constituents.

Figueroa could work at home after 11 if she can’t finish her work. Then again, isn’t having hard-working public officials a good thing? I would never do anything to discourage them. Especially since there are so many elected officials who want as many off days as they can get.

interesting story that. most employers want their people to work all hours if possible. it does sound petty that she is forced to leave at a silly hour, but she can always work from home if needed. but to be honest, working into the wee hours all the time can’t be good for the health! people need a healthy mayor too!

btw, what’s a lemonade award? if there is free lemonade going, can i have some? ;-)

When I first read this article, I thought the mayor was a party animal and that’s why they wanted a curfew for her. lol :)

I agree that it’s great to have someone that wants to work hard, but it’s definitely not safe out there anymore, so we have to keep people safe. :)
